Basic Info
Name:Minerva McGonagall
Birthdate:1925-10-04
Bio
The Basics

Character Name: Minerva McGonagall
PB: Kate Duchane

Age: 76
Birthday: October 4, 1925
Wand: 12 inches, Unicorn hair, oak, inflexible
House in School: Gryffindor
Bloodline: Pureblood

Political View:
Minerva is a member of the Order of the Phoenix, and has been since the first War. She vehemently believes in equality of birth and that people should be judged on their actions and merits as opposed to anything as foolish as blood status or being a werewolf. To illustrate publicly her view, she has refused any aid from the Ministry in the re-opening or the maintaining of Hogwarts, relying instead on private funding from those who do not insist on influencing how she runs her school. She chooses her professors and her alliances according to her own regard of a person's value, not their public face or status. This has caused her more than a few enemies, though none perhaps openly, among the pureblood supremacists as well as the Ministry itself.
Appearance

Height: 5'10"
Weight: 170lbs
Eyes: Brown beady eyes. She wears square glasses.
Hair: Black
Build: Slender Scottish woman
Dress Style: Minerva, proud of her Scottish heritage, loves her tartans and always wears one in some fashion. Most often, she can be seen in emerald green robes with a tartan sash around her waist or looped over her shoulder and across her chest.

Basic Physical Description:

Defining Marks:
She nearly always wears her hair in a bun, which accents her entire demeanor of severity and aloofness.
Minerva is also an animagus, turning into a tabby cat with markings around her eyes similar to the glasses she normally wears.
Personality

While in her public life, and indeed even semi-private, she doesn't let her hair down, that doesn't mean that Minerva doesn't appreciate humor or diversions. She is simiply reserved about displaying such and always maintains an air of composure if at all possible.

She is at her most jovial when the situation revolves around Quidditch. If one watches her closely, it's possible to see her eyes light up and her voice lilt just a bit more as she cheers secretly for her team. Though her passion for the sport is not reserved for simply one team. She loves the sport for its own merits, beyond any given team or player.

She takes her position very seriously and if in the capacity of Headmistress, there will be no betrayal of any thought or deed that could possibly reflect poorly on herself or Hogwarts in general. She is rigidly fair, even so far as to demerit her beloved Gryffindor house if deserved.

Stubborn perhaps to a fault, she has never been afraid to stick to her ideals no matter the cost. Change, to her, is not necessarily to be avoided, but to be thought through clearly and completely. However, once the path has been chosen, not even the Minister of Magic himself can sway her.

She is an egalitarian at heart and sees the benefit and merit in all the Houses, though that isn't to say she has an interminable fuse on her temper. She loves her students and her school, and does everything she can to ensure the success of both. She believes that merit is earned, not born, and that all students have the potential to become the greatest witches and wizards of their age.
Psychology

Extrovert/Introvert:
Minerva's an extrovert, but years of being a professor and retreating to a solitary room and existence have tempered her. Yet, she still enjoys company readily and will occasionally, very occasionally, let her demeaner slip enough to crack a sly joke. She tends to do this a bit more frequently with close friends, though the humor is more wit and carefully placed sardonic commentary than conventionally funny.

Boggart Would Be:
Her boggart takes the form of her students, in turn, having been destroyed by magical means. The method changes, from Transfiguration gone wrong, to splinching deaths, to varying other spells gone wrong.
For her, the most horrific thing and her greatest fear is having failed her students. They look to her as a teacher, mentor, and to allow them to perform deadly magic without proper tutelage or otherwise be unprepared for what lies before them is something she dreads. She cannot escape the fear that she could have done more to prepare them, to make sure they are ready for the world. In that, the boggart knows that the spells by which these "students" die are ones she would have been able to prevent had she not been the one to fail them.
Patronus Would Be:
DH CANON
Sexuality

Fairly asexual. While straight, romance and sexual desires have never been a priority for her. She's not adverse to the possibility of a "friends with benefits" situation, but her students are her first priority. For the past 45 years, Hogwarts has been her life, and she's not about to start to put herself first now.
Lifestyle

Occupation: Headmistress
Residence: Hogwarts Castle
Financial Status: Modest. She lives at the school and her personal resources are completely tied in with the school's future now.
Family

Parents: deceased. Agnes McLaren and Callum McGonagall
Siblings: none

Her parents never pressured her politically or otherwise. They were supportive of her choice to teach when the position opened up.
History from student days at Hogwarts to the present time

Minerva's school years were spent with several future formidable political adversaries. Most of her Hogwarts' years were spent with Tom Riddle and several of who would become the first generation Death Eaters in Slytherin.

Her sixth year at Hogwarts saw the Chamber of Secrets opened and the school nearly closed. Witnessing these events, even as a sixth year Gryffindor, changed her forever. She saw Hagrid expelled and knew he wouldn't have had the means or guile to do the things for which he was charged. While she never trusted, Tom, she did not realize as a student, what he would be capable of later in life.

After graduating, she moved back to Scotland, and studied privately further, living with her parents. It was during that time that she became an animagus.

The fall of 1956, she received an owl from Albus Dumbledore, offering her a teaching position at Hogwarts. Transfiguration had always been her first love and the chance to teach it was not something she was willing to pass up especially when paired with the position of Head of House for Gryffindor. She joined the staff of Hogwarts that December and has never regretted her decision. Hogwarts became her passion, forming young minds and sharing her love of magic and the world.

In the 1970s, she watched as Tom Riddle, now Voldemort, rose in power. She joined the original Order of the Phoenix under the direction and recruitment of Albus Dumbledore. Throughout that decade she balanced her teaching duties with those of the vigilante group to which she now belonged.

In 1981, she witnessed Albus leave Harry on the doorstep to 4 Privet Drive after the news that James and Lily Potter had been murdered. The remaining part of that decade was laced with focusing again on teaching and rebuilding the Wizarding World.

When Harry Potter began his school career, Minerva's activities were again split between teaching and fighting to keep her vision of the Wizarding World a viable option. When the Order of the Phoenix regrouped, she was there, working alongside Albus attempting to fight Voldemort.

After the war, Minerva has spent the time restructuring and rebuilding Hogwarts, improving it and returning it to its former glory. She discovered Severus' innocence in Albus' pensieve and petitioned for his release with Remus Lupin. Despite both individuals being collared and on the Registry, she hired them and has stood firm in her convictions. Expanding the Quidditch program had been the easier of the major overhauls she'd managed, and the one that experienced the lesser amount of vocal outrage. Yet, she held firm. Students would not get Sorted until their fifth year. Already, despite the protests, she felt she was creating an understanding for the other Houses that did not exist before.

Most recently, she's been watching the fiasco and prejudice of the Ministry become blatant and has started to wonder if the Order wasn't simply to designed to fight Voldemort. Perhaps she should reinstate it.
